What is interesting about the preparation "Athlete" for seedlings
It is not uncommon for gardeners to turn to fertilizers to improve the soil and increase yields. Among the effective means is the "Athlete" preparation for seedlings. This fertilizer has been in demand for over 50 years and is easy to buy at any garden store at an affordable price. The solution is prepared simply, its competent use is guaranteed to give a positive result.
Description of the drug
"Athlete" is a stimulating agent for the full development of seedlings of fruit and ornamental plants. One package contains 1.5 ml of the substance, which is placed in a glass ampoule.
When are these stimulants needed?
- no shoots;
- the seedlings are strongly stretched;
- protection from insects, fungus or ultraviolet radiation is required.
Also, a stimulant is used to get a larger harvest, larger and higher-quality fruits, to preserve the decorative effect of planting.
The Athlete is successfully used to grow a wide variety of crops. Most often fertilizer is used:
- For growing vineyards.
- Growing tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cabbage and other vegetables.
- For flower seedlings, also in pots.
The “Athlete” will come to the rescue when the gardener does not have enough time or experience to meticulously create ideal conditions for plants. The composition of the "Athlete" preparation is obtained by chemical synthesis of analogs of natural substances. It is safe when used correctly and works 100 percent.
Advantages and disadvantages
How is the athlete's drug useful for seedlings:
- Fertilized seedlings do not start uncontrolled growth, but develop gradually. The athlete influences growth in the following way: the upper part slows down in development, and all nutrients are distributed evenly throughout all parts of the plant. Hence the growth of green mass in breadth. The stem thickens, the leaves become larger.
- The root system of the seedling becomes stronger and branches better. Such a plant tolerates transplanting and picking more easily.
- Due to the branching, roots, more actively absorb nutrients from the soil. This has a noticeable and positive effect on the quality of the crop. The leaves turn rich green. At the same time, the amount of minerals and other substances in the soil remains the same.
- Improved nutrition also accelerates the accumulation of nutrients and increases the resistance of seedlings and mature plants. Accordingly, the risk of lodging is reduced.
- The number of leaves and buds on the stem does not decrease, despite the slowdown in the development of the upper part of the plant.
- Does not pose a danger to beneficial insects.
- The product is suitable for processing seedlings of any plants - as indicated on the package.
- It is sold in a convenient dosage and is economically consumed.
- The packaging contains clear instructions.
- It is inexpensive.
Of the minuses, it is worth noting that the athlete's hazard class is the third, that is, the drug is moderately toxic. Despite the fact that the substance is removed from the plant tissues in a couple of days, working with it requires caution and protective equipment. Although the drug is an analogue of natural substances, it is still a product of the chemical industry, some gardeners trust seedlings only to organic matter.
Instructions for use
The "athlete" is diluted to a certain concentration. Then the fertilizer is either watered or sprayed on the planting. The optimal processing time is the seedling or active growth stage.
Spraying:
- For this purpose, one ampoule should be diluted in a different amount of water at room temperature. Better to take settled, filtered or boiled.
- Saplings of pepper, tomatoes or eggplants are treated with a high concentration solution (1 ampoule per 0.5 l of water), when 3-4 real leaves appear.
- Tomato bushes, which are preparing for transplanting from a greenhouse into open ground, will need 3-4 fertilization treatments. Each subsequent spraying is carried out at intervals of one week. If, after the third treatment, it was not possible to transplant the tomatoes due to unfavorable weather conditions, then the fourth spraying is carried out.
- For flowering ornamental perennials, it is better to breed "Athlete" in the proportion of 1.5 ml of substance per 1 liter of water.
- When spraying (from a spray bottle) any ornamental crops, you should not spare the solution, the drops should flow from the leaves into the ground. Processing is carried out in case of overgrowth of the bush.
- After spraying the seedlings, you need to postpone watering it for a day.
Advice
Possible short-term appearance of white spots on the leaves after spraying. This is a normal reaction, not a burn, and should fade over time.
Some gardeners prefer to water their seedlings rather than spray them. The reasons for this can be different, including unaesthetic white marks on the foliage after treatment with a spray bottle.
Watering:
- The solution is poured strictly under the root, and not on top of the bush.
- The amount of liquid per plant is 30-50 ml.
- For pepper or eggplant, you need to dilute one ampoule in 1 liter of water.
- For cabbage, you will need a more concentrated solution - 1 ampoule per 0.5 liter.
- For watering potted plants by the "Athlete" 1 ampoule of fertilizer is diluted in 300 ml of water (settled, room temperature). This concentrated solution is applied under the root of the plant, in the budding phase. One pot - 50 ml of fertilizer. Longer flowering is noted after processing.
- After top dressing, 2-3 days should pass before the soil is moistened. During this time, the drug will perform its function and be completely removed from the plant.
Precautions
Although Athlete has a low toxicity level, there are several safety rules to follow. So, to prepare the solution, you should not take the dishes, which will subsequently contain food. The treatment of plants should be carried out in personal protective equipment: rubber gloves, goggles and a respirator.
The substance is potentially dangerous, so avoid contact with skin and mucous membranes. It is forbidden to eat and drink, or smoke during the fertilization procedure. After completing work, wash your hands and face thoroughly with soap and water, and rinse your mouth with water.
During spraying and watering by the "Athlete" there should be no children or pets nearby. Processing should not be carried out near the aquarium and terrarium; it is better to rearrange the flower pot for a while to another place.
Storage of the drug must comply with several rules: the temperature should not fall below zero Celsius and rise above 30 degrees. If the ampoule with fertilizer freezes, it will deteriorate. It is better to store the packaging in the room in winter, and with the onset of spring, it is permissible to take it out to the summer cottage.
Important! The drug used should not be expired. The production date is indicated on the packaging. More than 2 years should not pass from its moment. Expired fertilizer will have no visible effect. If the expiration date has expired, then it is better to burn the packaging with the ampoule.
The "Athlete" drug was invented back in 1962. Previously, it was available only to agricultural organizations, now it can be purchased by any gardener. The drug is approved by the Ministry of Health for use in private households. For more than 50 years, this tool has been successfully used on large farm areas, which means that there are good reasons to entrust your seedlings to him.
