Should onions be trimmed before planting in spring and fall?
Every gardener and gardener has their own agrotechnical secrets that help to grow and preserve the harvest. On many agricultural issues, people's opinions differ. The question of how to trim the onion and whether it should be done when planting is also controversial. There is no definite answer, because there are several types of onions, each of which has its own differences.
Onions have been cultivated by people since ancient times. Huge experience has been accumulated in growing and storing this healthy vegetable. With proper preparation of the seed and timely planting in the ground, you will get an excellent harvest. At the same time, do not forget that onions can be planted in spring and for winter - and in each case, the agricultural technology will be different.
Onion
When planted in spring, the size of the bulbs is not critical. Proper care and favorable weather conditions allow them to grow and reach the same size.
How to trim onions and prepare them for planting? Here are some guidelines.
- We remove sick, rotten and sprouted bulbs.
- If the onion is planted on a green feather, then with a knife or sharp scissors we cut off the upper part of a large onion by about a third. This stimulates the quickest growth of the green feather. Greenery grows beautiful, thick, juicy, breaks off easily. And the bulb is not pulled out of the ground.
- If you want to get a harvest of onions, it is advisable to remove only the dry tail of the set, without affecting the bulb itself.
- Gently cut dry roots with scissors. This facilitates the rapid development of the new root system. The very next day, you can see the appearance of young roots.
Advice
Before planting, warm up the sevok for a day on a warm battery. Then soak for 10 hours in any complex fertilizer (dilute in water according to the instructions!). Immediately before planting, dip the bulbs for 15 minutes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or in a solution of copper sulfate (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water), rinse with clean water.
If the set is left without pruning, the onion will sit in the ground longer. The same dry tail will interfere with the seedlings to break through to the sun.
The cut bulb has no barriers. The feather grows quickly and evenly, delighting the summer resident with early greens.
For planting for the winter, you can buy a small set (wild oat). Do not worry, the heads will grow large, they will not go into the arrows. The crop is well stored throughout the winter.
The principle of preparing winter seedlings is slightly different.
- Discard unsuitable seed.
- Sort the bulbs by size. Plant large first, then medium and small.
- The distance between the bulbs for winter planting should be less than for spring planting.
- You don't need to trim dry ends and roots.
- It is not recommended to soak and warm up.
Tiered bow
This type of onion is planted for the winter. His bulbs are small, they do not need to be cut. You need to try to plant before frost, so that they have time to take root and gain strength. The plant is perennial, grows in several tiers, has a pleasant taste.
Family bow
It is also called a family or kuschevka. Now it is not as popular as it used to be. The bulbs grow small, but with the observance of agricultural technology, a good harvest is possible.
The family is planted in early spring. At the same time, the bottom of the bulb is necessarily cut off, because a powerful, well-developed root system is important for this variety. Whether or not to trim dry ends is irrelevant in this case.
Advice
Before planting, "family" bulbs must be cleaned of dry husks, since putrefactive bacteria can be hidden under it.
This bow is not planted for the winter, otherwise it will go to the arrows. Do not forget to water more often: the family loves water very much.
As you can see, each type of onion has its own characteristics for preparing and cutting sets before planting.
A high-quality onion crop is guaranteed to you if you act correctly:
- follow the recommendations above;
- observe crop rotation;
- buy zoned sevok;
- maintain the terms of planting and harvesting;
- do not forget about feeding and fertilizing;
- timely kill the onion fly and other pests.
Subject to the temperature regime, onions are well stored until spring.
About onions, I was very surprised, and I will do so. Thank.
