Why are cucumbers watered with iodine and how to do it correctly?

Content

The desire to get a good harvest of vegetables, protected from various diseases and not oversaturated with chemicals, forces gardeners to generate new, sometimes unusual ideas. The decision to water, process and feed the cucumbers with iodine turned out to be effective. This pharmaceutical preparation proved to be an effective remedy for the prevention of fungus - the plants developed rapidly and showed excellent yields.

To process the lashes, iodine is added not only to water - products such as milk and whey are also used for the working solution. Brilliant green is also taken for solutions. You just need to know the correct proportions of preventive mixtures and their use.

Iodine

What is iodine used for in vegetable gardens?

The treatment of plants with iodine from the initial stages of growth can replace the use of expensive fertilizing and chemically complex preparations. Cucumber lashes and leaves are susceptible to changes in the external environment, suffer from high humidity in greenhouses and in the open field, and are exposed to the threat of infection by various pathogenic spores. And iodine, due to its antiseptic properties, inhibits small, undeveloped foci of harmful microorganisms, some bacteria and viruses, as well as fungi. In some cases, infections on leaves and stems fade away. But more often iodine solutions provide effective prevention - for this you need to regularly spray the plants.

Iodine is a participant in biological processes. He takes part in nitrogen exchange in the soil. Its use also destroys or weakens harmful microorganisms. With preventive treatment, its effect is equal to that of copper-containing fungicides. A working solution with ordinary brilliant green has a similar effect. Both antiseptics ultimately help the plants stay healthy and bear fruit well. It is also possible to spray cucumbers with antiseptics at the fruiting stage: in recommended doses, they are safe both for the treated plants and for the environment.

Advice

Solutions with iodine are prophylactically effective against the defeat of late blight, rot, powdery mildew: false and simple.

Advantages and disadvantages of folk remedies

Solutions of the drug are used in pre-sowing seed treatment and for spraying plants in the garden. Their positive impact is obvious:

  • stimulation of seed germination, plant development and abundant flowering;
  • rejuvenation of cucumber lashes and activation of their ability to form more ovaries;
  • increasing the content of vitamin C in cucumbers;
  • an increase in the duration of fruiting and, as a result, an increase in productivity;
  • suppression of fungal diseases in the early stages.

There are some drawbacks to this processing method.

  • Toxicity of iodine vapors to humans in an enclosed space. After spraying cucumbers in a greenhouse or greenhouse, you need to leave the room.
  • An overdose of iodine in solution can cause chemical burns on the plant.

Advice

Spraying is carried out mainly in the evening, after sunset.

Iodine solution for watering cucumbers in a greenhouse

The use of antiseptics

So, cucumbers are sprayed or watered with a solution of iodine to preserve their green mass and improve the appearance of ovaries. Moreover, its effect is similar to that of nitrogen fertilizers.

Feeding cucumbers with iodine you can start even in the seedling phase.

  • Cucumber sprouts, like other vegetable crops, are watered once with a useful solution. One drop of iodine is dissolved in 3 liters of warm water.If rainwater is available, it is best to use it.
  • When transplanting to a permanent place, a watering solution is also prepared. Three drops of iodine are added to 10 liters of water. One seedling will need 500 ml. When the liquid is absorbed, it is also poured over with plain water.

Spraying cucumbers with an iodine solution, they adhere to the proportion: for ten liters of water 5-10 drops of a 5% alcohol solution of iodine.

Preserving green tops

For this purpose, a special solution is prepared with white bread. If the infusion is not used at a time, it is stored in the refrigerator and heated before the next treatment (after 15 days).

  1. The loaf is soaked in 15 liters of water overnight.
  2. In the morning, grind the bread and add a bottle of iodine.
  3. The mixture is filtered and sprayed with cucumbers.

Seedlings of cucumbers

Top dressing with iodine and milk

They begin to process cucumbers with iodine and milk even in the seedling phase, when the sprouts are strong and there are three or four true leaves on them. Cucumbers are sprayed for prophylaxis against powdery mildew and for feeding.

  1. First, rub 20 g of laundry soap and dilute it, stirring for several minutes, in one liter of warm milk, preferably skim milk.
  2. Pour the solution into a tank with 10 liters of water and add 30 drops of iodine.
  3. Spraying is repeated every ten days, be sure to process the plants after planting in a permanent place.

Advice

The remaining mixture can be used for tomatoes, onions, berry bushes, eggplants.

Feeding with iodine and whey

Whey is often used instead of milk. Its acid suppresses the activity of pathogenic bacteria, and fungi that provoke fermentation have a detrimental effect on pathogens in plants.

  1. Mix 10 liters of water and 1 liter of whey. For this purpose, the dairy product must not be pasteurized. Both ingredients should be at room temperature.
  2. 10 drops of an alcohol solution of iodine are poured into the mixture.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide.
  4. Cucumbers are sprayed with a solution every ten days. Given the short development of these vegetables, a total of 3 treatments per season are obtained.

The positive effect of this method also lies in the fact that during this foliar feeding, the whey enriches the plant with useful microelements.

Advice

Laundry soap is added to the working solution as an adhesive. Under its influence, the substance remains on the surface of plants longer.

Processing cucumbers with brilliant green solution

Treatment with iodine and brilliant green

Medical antiseptics are used both separately and together. Both supply the necessary trace elements to the garden and protect against pathogens. Iodine and brilliant green mixed in one solution contribute to the support of plants, the effectiveness of each drug is enhanced.

  • Cucumbers are treated with green tea at the stage of ovary formation in order to increase their number.
  • To prevent late blight, when infection has already been noticed, healthy plants are sprayed with brilliant green and iodine together: 20 drops are added to 10 liters of warm water. Diseased plants will have to be removed. The procedure is carried out every decade.
  • Water the cucumbers with iodine and brilliant green to protect them from root rot. Add 10 drops of brilliant green and 3 drops of iodine to a bucket of water. At least 0.5 l of solution is poured under the plant.

Adding iodine to water for irrigation

Fighting root rot

Cucumbers suffer from root rot if there is poor ventilation and high humidity in the greenhouse. When signs of rot appeared, gardeners process cucumbers with a different composition.

  • Dissolve 50 g of carbamide in a bucket of water, add 1-2 liters of whey or milk and 20 drops of iodine. Processing is carried out in the summer two or three times.
  • Another method is also effective - lubrication of cucumber stalks with a concentrated iodine solution. For this mixture, take one part of iodine in two parts of water. The stems are lubricated only above the ground - only 10 cm.
  • The same solution can be prepared from brilliant green. The root parts of the stem are processed once every seven days.

Such care for cucumbers is good because it meets environmental safety standards and ensures a good harvest.In addition, large cash costs will not be required: both iodine and brilliant green are inexpensive and are sold in any pharmacy.
