Time and rules for planting tomato seedlings in a greenhouse

Content

Before growing tomatoes for seedlings, you should familiarize yourself with all the stages of this rather complex process. It begins with the selection of the more suitable seed material, its preparation and sowing. The cultivation of tomatoes continues with the care of the sprouts that have appeared, including not only maintaining a favorable microclimate, but also timely plant pickingas well as protection from various pests. And now it's time to plant plants in a polycarbonate greenhouse. Of course, in this case, growing tomatoes is fraught with some difficulties.

Polycarbonate greenhouse

Room preparation

It is produced in order to establish favorable conditions for the adaptation of seedlings, as well as to reduce the likelihood of developing diseases. The preparation includes the following steps.

  • Premises

The preparation of a polycarbonate greenhouse includes disinfecting measures and the elimination of various damages, if any.

Important!

It is imperative to provide for transoms that open from two opposite sides of the greenhouse, for better ventilation.

  • Priming

They start it when about a week and a half is left before planting seedlings. First, the top layer is removed from the soil, then it is disinfected with a solution of copper sulfate. After that, they are fed with humus, where a glass of fine wood ash and one and a half tablespoons of minerals are mixed in. When fertilizers have been added to the soil, it should be well dug up.

  • Garden beds

The formation of beds can be started as early as a week before planting in the ground, while the parameters of the beds should be as follows: width - from half a meter to 9 dm, height - up to 4 dm, the distance between the bed and the wall of the room - 4 dm, the distance between the beds - 6 dm ... The number of beds is determined depending on the width of the covered ground.

  • Microclimate

The preparation of a polycarbonate greenhouse also includes the establishment of a favorable microclimate. The air temperature at the time of disembarkation of seedlings is set at 20-25aboutC, and the soil should not have a temperature below 14aboutFROM.

Boarding time

Usually, the timing of transplanting tomatoes into the greenhouse depends on the establishment of favorable weather and a decrease in the risk of night frosts. It is possible to plant seedlings in a polycarbonate greenhouse already in May, since such rooms are able to maintain a favorable microclimate inside even at a temperature of -7aboutFrom outside.

When a tomato seedling reaches 20 cm in height and has several layers of leaves, it can already be planted in a permanent place. This indicates a good root system and readiness for planting indoors.

To determine the timing of sowing seeds, you need to know the time of planting tomatoes in a polycarbonate greenhouse. Given that the age of the planted tomatoes should be a month and a half, the sowing time is determined.

Boric acid

Preparing seedlings for planting

Before planting tomatoes in a polycarbonate greenhouse, you need them correctly temperso that the adaptation period lasts as short as possible.

They begin to harden a couple of weeks before transplanting in stages:

  1. open the vents first periodically, and then constantly for the whole day;
  2. on sunny warm days, take the seedlings outside for two hours for the first time, then gradually increase the time the sprouts stay in the fresh air;
  3. when favorable climatic conditions are established, the seedlings can be left for the whole day, and then overnight under good temperature conditions.

Proper hardening helps to strengthen the seedlings. This is evidenced by the presence of a purple tint on tomato stems.

You also need to do the following before planting tomatoes:

  • in 5 days: treatment with boric solution in order to preserve the buds on the fruiting branch;
  • in 2 days: cut two leaves at the roots for better flowering and quick adaptation;
  • immediately before transplanting, you can spray with Bordeaux solution that protects against diseases.

Correct growth of seedlings promotes healthy growth, which is characterized by a thick stem, strong roots and buds on the first fruitful branch.

Planting tomatoes in a checkerboard pattern

Tomato planting scheme

Growing tomatoes also involves determining the planting pattern - it is recommended to plant the bushes in a checkerboard pattern at a certain distance from each other.

  • Low plants: between rows - from 6 dm, between shoots - from 4 dm.
  • Determinant and standard bushes: between rows - from half a meter, between bushes - from 2.5 dm.
  • Tall tomatoes: between rows - from 7.5 dm, between sprouts - more than half a meter.

Important!

The planting should not be allowed to thicken - in this case, most of the plants will not receive enough sunlight, which will adversely affect their development.

Planting tomatoes in the ground

Landing methods

To transplant tomatoes into the ground, you must first prepare holes, the depth and width of which depends on the variety of tomatoes: for high ones, pits are prepared about 30 cm, and for low ones - up to 15 cm. When the holes are ready, they are plentifully spilled with warm water or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

Advice

It is better to plant sprouts in the ground with a clod of earth to reduce the risk of damage to tomato roots.

The tomato is placed vertically in the hole and covered with earth so that it covers the entire stem to the first true leaves. Having planted plants, the soil is compacted. After that, it is better to mulch with humus, peat or non-woven material, laying it on both sides of the planted bush. This is done not only to prevent tomato diseases, but also to maintain a favorable indoor climate.

Overgrown tomato seedlings can be transplanted in one of three ways.

  • Deep fit: for this, the sprout is installed obliquely into a deep elongated hole and covered with earth. The part of the stem that will be located underground is freed from all the foliage in advance.
  • "Double" landing: for this, a hole is made a little more than 10 cm deep, another one is made inside it - to the depth of the container with the plant. First, the tomato is planted in the lower hole according to all the rules, and after a couple of weeks, when the sprout adapts, the upper one is covered.
  • Stem shortening: three days before planting with a treated blade, cut the stem along an oblique line between the root and apex, connect the top and bottom, and fix the junction with ordinary tape. After the procedure, the plant can be planted in a permanent place.

Further, growing tomatoes is based on proper care and maintaining favorable conditions.

Greenhouse with tomatoes

Transplanting tomato seedlings in the Moscow region

A large harvest can be grown in any area, including the Moscow region. The main thing is to comply with all agrotechnical requirements for growing seedlings. For sowing, it is better to choose a small number of varieties that have given a stable yield for a certain time. Taking into account the fact that in the Moscow region favorable weather is established by the beginning of June, the appropriate dates for sowing seeds are determined - the beginning of April.

To get a good harvest in the Moscow region, it is necessary to change the soil in the greenhouse annually and periodically fertilize it. Tomatoes grow best when properly cared for and protected from various diseases. To increase the yield of tomatoes, do not neglect pinching, which will allow you to get larger fruits much faster.

In order to save space, it is not worth planting as many bushes as possible throughout the entire polycarbonate greenhouse.Tightness, lack of sunlight, difficult airing of the root area of tomatoes and good conditions for the spread of diseases do not at all contribute to an increase in yields. After all, when a plant does not have enough light, heat and air, it stops growing and developing.
