How to propagate raspberries on the site: the simplest and most reliable ways

Content

A sweet juicy berry is a reason for the pride of any gardener. Once every few years, raspberries need rejuvenation. To do this, she is seated. Most often, layering or cuttings are used - these are the most convenient methods if the gardener wants to preserve the characteristics of the mother plant. To plant a new variety, they buy a new planting material.

When to plant raspberries

The shrub is planted at any time of the year, except for winter:

  1. In spring, planting is most often carried out in early April, before budding. Fruits do not tolerate excess moisture well. Melted snow and rain can spoil the seedlings. But this is a good time to breed raspberries with nettles.
  2. Shrub propagation in summer takes effort. In the hot period, the bush needs additional care and protection from direct sunlight. The best way is grafting.
  3. The ideal breeding season for raspberries is autumn. The humidity is high enough, but there is no melting snow, and the soil has time to dry out between rains. The only caveat is that you need to have time to prepare the ground and plant raspberries 3 weeks before the onset of cold weather.

Site selection and landing methods

A site with loose and fertile soil that allows oxygen to pass through is suitable. The raspberry root system should not come into contact with groundwater.

There are 2 ways to plant raspberries:

  1. Planting material is placed in trenches dug to a depth of 30 cm. This method is suitable for a small garden, as it allows you to rationally distribute the territory.
  2. To plant raspberries in a hole way, pits with a diameter of 50 cm are prepared.

Advice
With any method of planting, dig in slate or plywood shields around the perimeter of the raspberry tree - they will prevent the bushes from crawling like weeds to the neighboring beds.

The garden plot is prepared a month before seedling. To do this, he is dug up and fed. If breeding occurs in autumn, the soil is mulched to protect the young from frost.

Breeding methods and care

Raspberries are a great option for amateur gardeners, because they quickly and easily recover and forgive many mistakes in agricultural technology. The most important condition is competent watering and garter. Otherwise, the shoots shade each other, and the fruits become smaller, lose their sweetness.

There are many ways to propagate a berry:

  • seeds;
  • cuttings;
  • root suckers;
  • apical layers;
  • "Nettles".

To ensure that the effort spent on breeding is not wasted, provide the correct care for the raspberries. Weeds in the area are conducive to the growth of bacteria, so remove them regularly. In spring and summer, feed the shrub with nitrogen fertilizers. They tend to oxidize, so mix them with ash.

Growing raspberries in the garden

Tie young plants to a support so that the sun's rays evenly fall on them. Pruning old shoots is also an important step in caring for varietal raspberries. Examine leaves and fruits for stains and damage. Make sure the place is well lit.

How to propagate raspberries by seed

The method is not suitable for those who want to quickly plant raspberries in the spring at home. Beginners should give preference to cuttings and other vegetative propagation methods. And summer residents who want to experiment can test their strength:

  1. Select healthy fruits and grind them finely.
  2. Cover the pulp with water and mix thoroughly.The best seeds will sink to the bottom, and the worst will float to the surface - scoop them up with a spoon and throw them away.
  3. Dry good seeds outdoors, away from dust and all kinds of contamination.
  4. It is advisable to plant them immediately in the garden. To do this, loosen the soil and deepen the seeds not 3 mm. For seedlings, place the seed in a small box and place it in the greenhouse.
  5. When the first true leaves appear, dive the seedlings.

Important
Be sure to check the stem and leaves for signs of fungal diseases or pests. Remove diseased seedlings without delay. After sprouting, keep the seedlings in a warm place.

Reproduction by green cuttings in summer

The cost of seedlings in the nursery is quite high. In addition, you can stumble upon unscrupulous sellers. Therefore, it is better to prepare them yourself at home, choosing a cloudy and wet day at the end of June:

  1. Cut green cuttings in the morning when they are saturated with moisture. Choose only young shoots from the bottom of a mature bush.
  2. Cut the cuttings into pieces, leaving 3-4 buds.
  3. Make shallow cuts with a pruner or knife and treat them with an antifungal agent.
  4. Do not place the seedling in a large container. For green cuttings to take root faster, treat them with growth stimulants such as Heteroauxin, Kornevin, indolylbutyric acid or growth powder. These funds promote rapid rooting. But watch the temperature, it should not exceed 18 degrees.
  5. Place the cuttings under the plastic and plant them 10 cm apart. Young seedlings need regular watering. It is good if there is a special installation for maintaining the humidity level.
  6. After a month, the cuttings will begin to grow. From this point on, watering should be reduced. It is equally important to ventilate the greenhouse and start hardening the seedlings.
  7. To transfer to the land, dig out the sprout along with 10 cm of soil.

Raspberry cuttings

How to propagate raspberries by root cuttings

The method is ideal for planting varietal raspberries. A root sucker is the part of the root that has lateral branches.

Procedure:

  1. To prepare root cuttings in fall or summer, select a varietal raspberry bush and dig out the strongest roots, at least 3 mm thick.
  2. Cut root cuttings from 8 cm long, while retaining all the side small roots.
  3. Dig a trench on the "nursery" bed, cover with wet sand.
  4. Cut the cuttings and lay in the sand, water.
  5. Cover with cling film and keep airing occasionally to avoid mold.
  6. When sprouts appear, remove the covering material.

A healthy cutting is dark brown in color. They can be planted in the spring or immediately after cutting. When green shoots appear, protect them from the sun and gusts of wind.

Breeding raspberries with root suckers

High-quality raspberries are easiest to propagate by root suckers. They are harvested in the summer around August. Select young plants that have settled near the mother bush and dig them up with a clod of earth. Examine them for damage or disease before use. If the shoot is too long, shorten it to 15 cm. Provide the offspring with watering and protection from the sun. Compost and humus are suitable for feeding. Mulch the soil after planting.

How to propagate raspberries with "nettles"

For this method, green plants are used that appear in the spring:

  1. Carefully cut the shoot along with the underground white part.
  2. Treat the section with a growth stimulant such as Kornevin or Epin.
  3. Prepare a substrate of peat and river sand in a 1: 1 ratio.
  4. Moisten the nettle and bury. Create a greenhouse effect with a plastic bottle or film.

Reproduction of raspberries with nettles

If you decide to install a greenhouse in your garden, then place it in the shade of a fence or trees.Maintain the temperature from 20 to 26 degrees Celsius and in a month leaves will appear on the nettle. Repaired varieties planted with nettles quickly begin to bear fruit. Sometimes the berries appear in the fall.

Reproduction of raspberries by apical layers

Some varieties of raspberries, such as black or purple, do not reproduce well by cuttings. The apical layers will help to dilute it. They are prepared in summer or early autumn. When the shoots of the black raspberry begin to slope down, they are ready to root. Depending on the condition of the offspring, it is planted immediately or left until the arrival of spring.

Raspberry farming is an interesting activity for both experienced and novice gardeners. To form a raspberry, a few bushes are enough, which in the future can be quickly propagated by cuttings, root suckers, seeds or "nettles". With proper breeding and care, raspberries will delight the owner with juicy fruits.
