Description of tomatoes Yablonka of Russia - characteristic of the variety
You cannot find a gardener who would not dream of planting a crop on his site that costs a minimum of attention. Domestic breeders have given us such a gift - the Yablonka Rossii tomato from the Sady Rossii company (the originator of the variety) is distinguished by its unpretentiousness, undemanding in care.
Description and characteristics of the variety
The variety was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 2000 after two years of testing.
The cultivar got its "non-tomato" name for its unusual leaf shape for tomatoes. In young plants, they are whole, similar to apple trees. In adult bushes, the leaves also have a characteristic feature - they resemble potato tops. Such tomatoes are often called potato-leaved.
According to the description of the variety given by the State Register, Yablonka of Russia belongs to determinant standard varieties recommended for open ground and greenhouses practically throughout Russia, Moldova, Ukraine in personal and small farms. It is referred to as early ripening - the first fruits ripen on the 110-115th day after planting the seeds.
The height of the trunk reaches 130 cm in greenhouse cultivation, in the open field it is usually 80-100 cm. Bushes of moderate branching, medium foliage, compact. The stems are powerful, strong, like the leaves, they bear a resemblance to the potato.
The first flower cluster is formed, as in most standard varieties, above the 7th or 9th leaf. The number of fruits in a brush is 5–8 pcs. Average yield of a bush - up to 100 pcs., From 1 m2 collect 5–5.5 kg.
Purpose - universal, tomatoes are equally good fresh, salted, pickled, suitable for making sauces, juice, mashed potatoes.
Fruit characteristics:
- Unripe berries are colored milky green, fully ripe - bright red.
- The weight of one fruit is from 80 to 100 g.
- The pulp is dense, fleshy, sweet with a slight sourness, sugary at the break.
- The fruits have a pronounced tomato flavor.
- The skin is thin, but dense, without hardness, not prone to cracking.
- Keeping quality of fruits and transportability is high.
Variety advantages:
- unpretentious care;
- drought resistance;
- resistance to sudden changes in weather;
- not necessarily the formation of a bush and pinching;
- fruits are tied in all weather conditions;
- tomato is resistant to pests, nightshade diseases;
- with prolonged precipitation, not tomatoes do not crack;
- The apple tree of Russia is a variety, not a hybrid, so the seeds of grown tomatoes can be used for sowing.
Summer residents especially note the high decorativeness of the cultivar: during the ripening period, it looks like a miniature apple tree, strewn with bright fruits.
The disadvantages are insignificant, experienced summer residents dispute them:
- The taste is good, but not excellent, although among the early ripe tomatoes, only a few varieties have excellent taste.
- Uneven yield - after mass fruiting, a decline occurs, quite sharp, when no more than 2-3 fruits ripen at the same time on each stem. But fruiting continues even during the ripening period of late varieties, so it is difficult to call it a disadvantage.
Features of agricultural technology
In the south, Yablonka of Russia is often sown directly into open ground (in the first half of April - under a light film cover, without cover - since the last decade of the month). In the middle lane, the cultivar is grown in seedlings, sowing in March: from the first days - for greenhouse cultivation, from the third decade - for open ground.
The reliability of the variety has been tested by time, and therefore, from the preliminary treatment of seeds, they are only disinfected if they are collected independently. Hardening, soaking, germination is not performed.
Growing seedlings has its own characteristics:
- Seeds are sown into a substrate of peat, humus and sod (1: 1: 1) to a depth of 1.5-2 cm.
- Germination is carried out at room temperature and good lighting.
- Seedlings require additional lighting up to 10 hours.
- The sprouts are slightly lowered in temperature for 4-5 days.
- The first pick is carried out on 10-12-day-old seedlings, placing them in separate pots.
- Watering the seedlings is regular, moderate.
- The seedlings do not need feeding. Full complex mineral fertilizer is fed only when the growth stops and the leaves become lighter.
- Transplanting into open ground is carried out with the onset of heat, protecting the seedlings with a light temporary shelter. In this case, the age of seedlings should not be less than 60 days.
The rules for planting seedlings do not differ from the generally accepted ones, the only exception is a denser placement scheme, at a distance of 50 to 60 cm from each other.
The peculiarity of the variety is its exactingness to the place of cultivation, to the soil. For beds under Yablonka, sunny areas protected from the wind are suitable. The soil is needed highly fertile, loose, light, with a neutral pH.
The best predecessors for the variety are pumpkin, legumes, bulbous crops.
Caring for this variety in the beds is not burdensome for summer residents:
- watering - only with prolonged absence of precipitation;
- during the period of fruit ripening, watering is refused, only at daytime temperatures exceeding 33-35 ° C, in the evening water is moderately added;
- to feed the Apple tree, wood ash is enough, it is scattered under the bushes every 10-15 days;
- a plant resistant to diseases is sprayed with onion peel infusion for prevention;
- with a large number of fruit set, the tomatoes are tied to a support.
This is the minimum, but sufficient set of care measures. Summer residents busy with other work on the site are grateful to the cultivator for such restraint. Of course, if possible, you can take care of Yablonka Russia as more demanding varieties.
The fruits of the Yablonka of Russia ripen well in indoor conditions, therefore, with prolonged bad weather, they are removed for ripening in windbreaks. This reduces the load on the bush, stimulates its further fruiting. The last fruits, taken before the cold weather, are also successfully ripening.
The Yablonka tomatoes of Russia are often called "a variety for the lazy", "tomatoes for the busy." Indeed, with minimal care, they give consistently good yields, not striking in size or explosive taste, but invariably delighting in the marketability of fruits and their quantity.
