Rules for feeding strawberries with yeast during flowering and fruiting

Content

Feeding strawberries during flowering and fruiting with yeast is a safe and effective way to increase yields and improve the taste of berries. In addition to the direct effect on strawberry bushes, the introduction of a yeast solution improves the structure and properties of the soil. For the good development of the berry, you can use other folk remedies and fertilizers along with yeast.

Yeast for feeding strawberries

Yeast benefits

Strawberries are considered to be a demanding crop. In the process of development and growth, the bushes actively absorb the substances they need from the soil. Yeast can be called a natural growth stimulant: in the process of life, yeast fungi produce phytohormones - auxin and cytokinin, which stimulate the growth and division of plant cells. Yeast contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, phosphoric acid, nitrogen, potassium, trace elements, B vitamins.

Watering strawberries with a yeast solution replaces the use of EM preparations.

Benefits of using yeast feeding:

  • availability, harmlessness, ease of use;
  • the immunity of strawberries increases, its resistance to unfavorable external factors increases;
  • yeast promotes active growth of roots and aerial parts of plants;
  • you can apply top dressing by root and foliar method;
  • there is an acceleration of fruiting;
  • the quality of berries improves.

During the growing season, strawberries in the open field are fed with yeast 2-3 times.

  1. The first time fertilization is applied at the stage of bud formation.
  2. The second feeding is done at the very beginning of fruiting.
  3. The third time, you can feed the bushes with yeast solution in the fall in preparation for winter.

However, it is also impossible to abuse such feeding, otherwise a deficiency of potassium and calcium may occur in the soil. The fact is that in the process of chemical reactions associated with yeast fermentation, these elements are absorbed - and a certain imbalance may occur.

If desired, you can spray the strawberries with yeast solution over the leaves.

Yeast dressing recipes

Any kind of yeast can be used to prepare the top dressing. Dry yeast in a bag or fresh pressed yeast sold in a pack is usually used.

For greater efficiency, additional components can be added to the composition:

  • Dissolve 1 tbsp in 5 liters of warm water. a spoonful of dry yeast and 2 tbsp. tablespoons of sugar. The composition must be held in a warm place for the fermentation process to begin. After 2-3 hours, top dressing can be used for root watering. Before use, 1 part of the yeast solution is diluted with 10 parts of water.
  • 1 kg of compressed yeast is dissolved in 5 liters of water heated to 28 ° C. The composition should be fermented in a warm place for 4–5 days. Then 0.5 l of the solution is diluted in 7 l of water and the strawberries are poured under the root.
  • Dissolve 1 bag of baker's yeast in 0.5 l of warm water, 2 tbsp. tablespoons of sugar, stir and let stand for 4 hours. Then the resulting concentrate is diluted with 10 L of water. Before use, the solution is again diluted at a ratio of 1:10.
  • A more nutritious composition will turn out if you add mowed grass to the yeast fertilizer. One bucket of chopped weeds, 0.5 kg of pressed yeast and one loaf of black bread, cut into pieces, are added to a 70-liter barrel. The remaining volume is filled with warm water. The composition must be fermented within 3 days. After that, the solution is filtered and used for watering strawberries.

The rate of yeast feeding is 0.5 liters per one bush.

By itself, yeast does not contain sufficient nutrients for plants. It is necessary to introduce this substance into the soil fertilized with organic substances. As a result of fermentation, organic matter will begin to decompose into elements necessary for plants.

Fertilizer is used immediately after preparation. The yeast solution is not subject to storage. The water taken for the preparation of top dressing must be moderately warm, but not hot, otherwise the yeast will die. Such fertilizer is applied only to warm soil, at low temperatures the yeast will not work.

How to fertilize correctly?

To obtain the proper effect, the use of yeast starter culture as a fertilizer requires compliance with certain rules.

Necessary conditions for yeast introduction:

  • top dressing is applied in the evening or in cloudy weather:
  • the soil must first be watered;
  • it is impossible to violate the concentration of fertilizer and exceed the consumption rate;
  • yeast is never used in dry form - it must first be diluted with water, otherwise, instead of benefit, the granules will harm, attracting harmful insects;
  • when spraying on the leaves, a solution of a weaker concentration is used (100 g of fresh yeast per 10 liters of water, after fermentation, add another 5 liters of liquid to the solution);
  • yeast is not used simultaneously with mineral fertilizers, but is introduced a little later.

Feeding at each stage of strawberry development has its own characteristics. In addition to yeast, you can use other folk remedies, given the condition of the plants.

Flowering strawberry

At the beginning of flowering

You need to fertilize strawberries with yeast in spring at the moment when the first buds begin to appear on the bushes. Plants at this stage of the growing season need large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus. The active vital activity of yeast fungi will help the release of necessary elements and their assimilation by the roots of strawberries.

In addition, an excellent feeding during this period will be:

  • A solution prepared from 1 g of boric acid and 2 g of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water. Used for spraying.
  • Infusion based on chicken droppings. In 10 liters of water, dissolve 0.5 liters of droppings and leave for 2 days. Consumption - 500 ml per plant.
  • Infusion of mullein. Add 1 liter of slurry to a bucket of water and let it ferment for 7-10 days, stirring the liquid periodically. Watered at the root using 0.5 liters of infusion per bush.

You can also use industrial fertilizers. For this stage of the growing season, "Kemira", "Baikal EM-1" are suitable.

Fertilizing strawberries during fruiting

At the stage of fruiting

During the period of ovary formation and berry filling, plants are in great need of potassium, but yeast fungi also consume this element in the process of their vital activity. Along with yeast, it is desirable to add wood ash to the soil - this will make up for the loss of potassium and calcium. Ash powder can be added directly to the yeast solution (1 cup to 5 L).

Boron is still needed for strawberries when they are starting to set. Top dressing is prepared from 1 liter of hot water and boric acid taken at the tip of a knife. It is necessary to achieve complete dissolution of the crystals and then add another 9 liters of water to the solution. One half-liter jar of top dressing is poured under each strawberry bush.

The introduction of zinc sulfate at this stage (2 g per 10 l of water) will help to increase the yield. In the same solution, you can add 1 tbsp. spoon of potassium monophosphate.

A good effect during the fruiting period is provided by the use of a solution prepared from 1 tbsp. tablespoons of potassium sulfate, 1 tbsp. tablespoons of saltpeter and 1 tbsp. spoons of the drug "Kemira Lux".

Features of planting strawberries

If you found out about useful feeding only at the end of the season, do not be discouraged - at the beginning of the next you will be fully armed. But there is one more thing worth knowing in order to grow garden strawberries with an eye to a great harvest.

Taking care of a good strawberry harvest begins at the stage of choosing a variety. It is the varietal characteristics that largely determine the resistance of the culture to diseases and pests, the possibility of abundant fruiting. Before planting, it is advisable to soak the seedlings in water at a temperature of 40-50 ° C or in a fungicide solution for 10-20 minutes. The place for planting strawberries should be sunny, sheltered from the wind, without stagnant water. The southwest slopes are best suited for this purpose.

Strawberries grow well on black soil, loam and sandy loam with a slightly acidic reaction. The soil should be loose and fertile. Every 5 years, a new planting site is chosen for berry bushes, since the culture requires rejuvenation.

Suitable precursors for strawberries:

  • legumes;
  • salads;
  • carrot;
  • cabbage;
  • radish;
  • garlic;
  • siderates;
  • onion.

It is not recommended to plant berries in the place where tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, raspberries grew. Fruit trees and shrubs that give a lot of growth (cherry, plum, raspberry, blackberry) are undesirable as neighbors.

It is permissible to plant next to garden strawberries:

  • cucumbers;
  • cabbage;
  • radish;
  • radish;
  • greenery;
  • onion;
  • garlic;
  • peas.

You can plant strawberries in spring and late summer or autumn. Usually a one-line or two-line fit is used. With a single-line planting, the bushes are placed in one row with an interval of 20-30 cm and a row spacing of 50 cm. With a two-line planting, the plants are planted in a checkerboard pattern in two rows at a distance of 20-30 cm from each other, the gap between the rows should be 35-40 cm wide. If there is enough space on the site, the bushes are planted more freely, according to the 50x50 scheme.

Planting is best done in the morning or on a cloudy day. You can plant strawberries on agrofibre by first spreading the covering material on the garden bed and making cross-shaped cuts in it for the holes. This method of planting allows you to reduce the number of waterings and refuse weeding. Agrofibre is left in the garden for the entire period of Victoria growing (3-4 years).

Applying various fertilizers at critical stages of the strawberry growing season, you can significantly increase the yield and achieve a rich berry taste. Yeast is one of the available, cheap and effective means that is recommended to be used as a top dressing. Many gardeners are already doing this.
