What folk remedies are used to feed pepper and tomato seedlings?

Content

Among gardeners, feeding tomato and pepper seedlings with folk remedies is no less popular than the use of mineralized mixtures. To get a healthy and generous harvest in the future, you need to take care of high-quality seedlings. The stem of a young tomato bush should be thick and short, the first leaf should be low. Even healthy seedlings can wither if the soil lacks nutrients.

It is important to consider where young bushes will be planted: outdoors or in a greenhouse. Correctly selected fertilizer after picking and planting will give the plant the opportunity to stock up on strength for strong and rapid growth.

Advice

Inexperienced gardeners are generous and fill the bushes with fertilizers. It is better to calculate the amount of all components in advance. If you overdo it, you will achieve lush growth of the leaves, but reduce the amount of future crops.

Foliar feeding of tomato seedlings

Types of feeding

Top dressing can be applied to the soil under the root of the planted bush and sprayed onto the surface of the green mass.

There are two options for fertilizing:

  1. root feeding;
  2. foliar feeding.

Even inexperienced gardeners know about the latter type, but they rarely use it. More common is fertilizing the soil for absorption by the root system. Experts say that foliar feeding is more effective for young bushes of pepper and tomatoes. The leaves quickly absorb the missing nutrients and minerals. If you notice that the seedlings are suffering from a lack of one or another substance, prepare a weak organic solution and spray the green mass.

Important!

Can cause burns to foliage when using concentrated solutions.

Foliar fertilization of seedlings is more beneficial. All minerals that fall on the leaf are immediately absorbed by the plant. But the solution introduced into the soil is washed out during rain or watering. The root system absorbs a small part of all essential substances.

Immediately after picking, it is better to alternate both types of feeding. In the second half of the growing season, root feeding should be preferred. Do not use tap water. Tomatoes do not tolerate chlorine. Gardeners are advised to collect rainwater or use settled tap water.

Befungin preparation

First foliar dressing

On the eighth day after planting tomato and pepper seedlings, carry out the first foliar feeding.

Below are the best fertilizer recipes for sprinkling tomatoes.

  1. Water with potassium permanganate (weak solution of light pink hue). Remember that the concentrated solution will burn the leaves of the young bush.
  2. In a bucket of rain or settled water, dilute a bottle of brilliant green (about 20 ml) and 10 crushed tablets of Trichopolum.
  3. Mix water with milk in a 10: 1 ratio. Add 12 drops of iodine to the solution.
  4. Dilute the birch mushroom ("Befungin") in settled water until it acquires a dark shade. Befungin is available at the pharmacy.
  5. Mix the serum with water (2 liters of serum with 8 liters of water). Add sugar (a third of a glass per 1 liter) and iodine (2 drops per 1 liter) to the resulting solution.

Fertilizer should be applied from a spray bottle for more even leaf coverage. Don't use all recipes at the same time. It is better to alternate solutions. This spraying nourishes the seedlings and protects tomatoes and peppers from the spread of fungal infections.

Poultry manure solution for feeding seedlings

Root dressing

Mineral and organic fertilizers cannot be applied to the soil for up to ten days. The first organic feeding can be applied 10 days after planting. The second feeding is applied two weeks after the first. The third feeding can be done during flowering (preferably when the second brush blooms).

Recipes for the best organic tomato and pepper dressings

  1. Dilute half a liter of chicken manure or a liter of cow dung in ten liters of water (settled tap or rainwater). Dung and manure can be replaced with ammonium nitrate (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water).
  2. In a full bucket of water, you need to dissolve 2 tbsp. l. superphosphate, half a liter of chicken manure and 1 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate... The day before use, add superphosphate to the water so that it has time to dissolve in the water. The rest of the ingredients can be added before use.
  3. In a bucket of water, dissolve 5-7 g of boric acid, half a liter of chicken manure and 1 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate.

Advice

Root feeding, like watering, is best done either early in the morning, when the sun has not yet risen, or late in the evening, when the sun's rays are less active.

Seedling ash

Ash

Wood ash contains a lot of potassium and phosphorus. It does not contain chlorine, which tomatoes do not like so much. The soil is flavored with ash before planting young plants. Put 10 g of wood ash (about 2 tablespoons) into each well. Sprinkle it with a thin layer of soil. In its pure form, ash can damage young roots of the bush. On the 14-15th day after planting tomatoes, it is useful to carry out the first feeding.

Fertilizing a bush with liquid ash nourishes it and protects it from diseases and pests. To prepare the solution, you will need 100 g of ash powder and 10 liters of water. The solution should be poured into the soil at the base of the stem. 1 liter of fertilizer is poured under each seedling. Stir the solution constantly to prevent the ash from settling.

Dusting vegetable bushes with dry ash is an excellent protection against pests. Before the procedure, it must be sieved. There is a recipe for liquid fertilizer for foliar feeding. For 10 liters of water, you will need 300 g of ash and half a bar of laundry soap. Boil the solution for half an hour, strain and cool. Soap is an optional ingredient. It is added for better adhesion of the solution to the leaves of the seedlings.

Taking care of pepper and tomato seedlings is not difficult. However, this process takes time and some knowledge. Strong and healthy bushes will reward you with a harvest.
